Doctrinal Statement
The preaching and teaching of North Shore Baptist Church is based on the great
fundamentals of the Christian faith, all of which center in the Person of Jesus
Christ and His death, resurrection, and exaltation.
The Scriptures
We believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God, the written
record of His supernatural revelation of Himself to man, absolute in its
authority, complete in its revelation, final in its content, and without
error.
God
We believe that the Godhead exits eternally in three Persons, Father,
Son, and Holy Spirit, and these are one God.
Jesus Christ
We believe in the true deity and humanity of Jesus Christ, His
miraculous birth, conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin
Mary, His sinless life, His atonement for the sins of the world by His
death, His bodily resurrection, His ascension into Heaven, His perpetual
intercession in behalf of the saints, and His personal, bodily, visible
return to earth.
Holy Spirit
We believe that the Holy Spirit is the third Member of the Godhead; that
He is a divine Person equal with the Father and the Son; that His
ministry is to uplift and glorify Christ, to convict the world of sin,
righteousness, and judgment and to regenerate, indwell, enlighten,
empower and comfort the saved: that the evidence of His presence in the
life of the believer is the fruit of the Spirit.
Satan
Satan is a person, a fallen angel, the author of the fall of man, and
the god of this age. He is also a defeated foe and his destiny is
eternal punishment.
Salvation
We believe that all men by nature and by choice are sinners and
therefore are lost and depraved; that salvation is by grace, a free gift
of God, and is only obtained through personal faith in the Lord Jesus
Christ; that the reception of salvation is characterized by a godly
sorrow for sin and a transformed life.
The Church
We believe that the plan of God for this age is to evangelize the world
through the establishing of New Testament local churches; that the
ordinances of the local church are two: the Lord's Supper and Baptism by
immersion; that the church is to be separated from the state as well as
all ecumenical groups and unequal yokes.
The Future
We believe in the imminent return of our Lord Jesus Christ, the
pretribulational rapture of the saints, the Judgment Seat of Christ, the
great tribulation followed by the millennial reign of Christ, the Great
White Throne Judgment, and the creation of the New Heaven and the New
Earth.
Eternity
We believe in the bodily resurrection of the dead, both of the just and
the unjust; the eternal conscious punishment of the lost in Hell and the
eternal joy of the saved in Heaven.
Church Covenant
Having given ourselves to God by faith in Christ, and having been
scripturally baptized, and having adopted the Word of God and joyfully
enter into covenant with one another as members of North Shore Baptist
Church and therefore as One body in Christ. We engage by the aid of the
Holy Spirit, to walk together in Christian love; to follow cheerfully
the God-ordained leadership of the church, submitting willingly to its
authority; to sustain its worship, ordinances, discipline, and
doctrines; as Christian stewards by contributing
regularly to the support of the ministry with our tithes and offerings,
and to give sacrificially when called upon to do so.We also engage to
faithfully discharge our obligations in reference to the study of the
scriptures, secret prayer, and family devotions; to religiously educate
our children; to walk circumspectly in the world; to be just in our
dealings, faithful in our engagements and exemplary in our deportment.
We further engage that we will everywhere hold Christian principles
sacred and Christian obligations and enterprises supreme; counting it
our chief business in life to extend the influence of Christ in society
by maintaining a testimony to the glory of God characterized by a life
of purity and holiness.
We further engage, by God's grace to love and obey Him in all things, to
avoid the appearances of evil, to abstain from all sinful amusements and
unholy conformity to the world; to avoid tattling, backbiting and
excessive anger; to exempt societies whose teachings and practices are
contrary to the Word of God; to abstain from the sale and use of
intoxicating drink, tobacco, drugs, and unclean literature-men with
appearance and actions becoming Christian manhood and women with
appearance and actions becoming Christian ladies.
We moreover engage to except Christian admonition and reproof with
meekness; to watch over one another in brotherly love; to remember each
other in prayer, to aid each other in sickness and distress; to be
careful of one's happiness and reputation, seeking to strengthen the
weak, encourage the afflicted, admonish the erring, and as far as we are
able, promote the advancement of the church and of the Gospel.
We finally engage that, if we remove from this place, we will as soon as
possible unite with some other fundamental church whereas we can carry
out the spirit of this covenant and the principles of God's Word.
