What type of Baptist Church are you? We are an independent, fundamental Baptist church which does not yoke ourselves with any ecumenical, civil, or denominational organization. What best describes your style of worship? There is a growing movement among fundamental churches to incorporate and embrace the popular "Christian" culture into their worship services. Here at North Shore, we honor a traditional worship style that has served Christianity well for a very long time. We feel that to include contemporary Christian music, popular trends, or modern whims minimizes the preaching of God's word and serves mainly to entertain the hearers. At North Shore, the focus of our services has been, and always will be, the preaching of the word of God. The preaching of God's word is the avenue God has chosen to change men's hearts. We have seen many sailors and civilians come to know Christ, through four wars, by the boldness of preaching. We trust that God will continue to bless in like manner! Do you minister to believers of all backgrounds? Absolutely! That is why we are here! Because of our unique ministry to the military at Great Lakes Naval Training Center, we are privileged to minister to a wide variety of believers. We have had all sorts of Christians cross our path and have been blessed by their attendance. Our hope and prayer for them is that we can encourage them and help them grow while stationed at Great Lakes, sending them to their next duty station a much stronger believer. What is your stand on the King James Bible? Believing the King James to be a perfectly accurate and reliable translation of the Holy Scriptures, we exclusively use the King James Version for our preaching, teaching, outreach ministries, and literature distribution. Do you do door-to-door evangelism? Yes. However, unlike some churches, that is not our main method of reaching others for Christ. Door-to-door evangelism is one of three methods described in scripture for reaching the lost. The other two are mass evangelism (preaching meetings) and personal work (discipleship). There is a reason Christ gave us three ways of reaching the lost. No single method is efficient in and of itself. Therefore, we strive to maintain a balance, and encourage, all three means of soul-winning. How is your Sunday School structured? We have graduated Sunday school classes for all ages. We refer to these classes as our Bible Hour. We encourage parents to place their children in the class appropriate for their child's age and allow our qualified staff to minister to their hearts. Our staff is dedicated to teaching the principles of God's word to the level or their students. They seek to encourage and edify all those who are entrusted to them. Are you legalistic? We believe, first and foremost, that the proof of a mature Christian is what he is on the inside, not necessarily what is on the outside. We believe that Christian maturity is exhibited by the fruits of the Spirit found in Gal.5 and the Christian graces found in 2Pet1. However, we also believe that what a person is on the inside will come out on the outside. We believe that a Christian should be different from the world in spirit, not just in appearance. Do you associate with any fundamental 'circles' or 'camps'? Absolutely not! We cannot condone everything that all fundamental believers profess or practice, but we are not in the place of God seeking to remove their candlestick from it's place (Rev.2). We support the right of corporate soul liberty in churches to establish how they believe God would have them conduct ministry, or which doctrines they hold dear. We hold Paul the Apostle's conviction to know nothing among other camps but Jesus Christ and Him crucified! |
